How we work with Individual Athletes
Sport Psychology Institute Northwest consultants work with individual athletes of all ages, genders, all skill levels, and all sports. We can help athletes anywhere on the spectrum below:
Our philosophy in working with individual athletes is part counseling, and part teaching. For each individual athlete, we begin by getting to know each athlete not only as an athlete, but a person as a whole: what motivates you, what are your goals, what are the obstacles in your way. Then we teach the sport psychology techniques to fit what you need:
- How to focus your thoughts before, during and after training and competition
- How to control your emotions before, during and after training and competition
- How to maintain a positive mindset
- How to visualize success and utilize mental imagery techinques
- How to set highly effective goals
- How to let go of mistakes
- How to get out of a slump
- How to perform under pressure
- and much more
When an athlete knows how to focus their attention, think positively in all situations, control their emotions, their technical ability, physical ability, and tactical knowledge can shine through on a consistent basis.
Our sport psychology consultants can work with individual athletes in person at our office in downtown Portland, or remotely by phone, Skype, or FaceTime.
